“A habit is a repeated routine. Unless the sun decided to glow out your arse, don’t count on it happening all the time.” Astoria laughed briefly before covering her mouth. It was a slight attempt at being polite. She might have broken free but Astoria still prided herself on being proper.

“I deserved none of that which you gave me. I asked for none of it, least of all for the ruination of your life through the contract that you now have finally decided to break.”

His enigmatic expression betrayed none of what he was feeling, and emotion such as this did not sit well with Draco.

“You’ve your wish of me. I know no other way to go about my life, but alone. I am pleased you have found yourself enough to break away from the fallacy you had in your head about me. I do not apologize for the manner in which I treated you. You needed a wake up call.”

Astoria’s brow knitted in general confusion and slight concern. Up until this point in time she had been so certain of him. Draco was nothing more than a self-centered prick with a short temper, but perhaps not. Maybe it was just a matter of his anger being displaced. Not that it warranted her sympathies, but it gave her a better understanding of the man she almost called ‘husband’.

“Maybe I did,” The woman agreed in a tone that lack the harsh whip it normally held. “Either way you are free of me now.”

“Feel what exactly, Astoria?” he asked, confused by her tone and her sudden desire to be more than a Malfoy.

“Feel lonely, hurt.. Draco I have never tried to be your wife. I never wanted any assets that you or your family obtained. The only thing I ever asked for was a friend. Due to speculation I received nothing but abuse.” Astoria sighed and averted her gaze once more. “I use to admire you, respect you even.”

His cool gaze assessed her wondering if she was playing some sort of cunning game. One did not live with Narcissa Malfoy without considering such a thing.

“Good, then. I quite agree.” Draco squared his jaw. She was finally sizing up to be someone. At least Draco hoped she would. “Make something of yourself, Astoria. I never thought you’d be content with just the title of wife. We would both have been miserable.”

“I have already made something of myself, Draco. Yet its nice to know that after all this time you were so unhappy with me, enough to make me hurt. I hope you feel the same one day. Not to get back at you but so you can understand the world a little better.”

Draco raised a brow, silently pleased with her, though his expression was dispassionate. “Be clear, then, when you speak. I’m listening. And don’t apologize.”

“Apologize? What do I have to be sorry for? That I was stuck in a dull relationship with a man who refused to even kiss me? Honestly, I should have been betrothed to a rock.” Astoria folded her arms and let out a sigh, calming herself enough to speak properly. “What I’m trying to say is.. I’m not staying. I’m not becoming your wife because I can’t stomach the thought of being with someone who doesn’t give two shites about me.”

“Love might not exist, but courtesy and passion does.”

I just want to say that I love how you rp Astoria. More girls should strive to be strong and confident even when being oppressed. Oh and thank you for making her sweet and not a bitch like the others on here.

“A job?” he blinked at her. “Really. Well, that’s a first. You do realize your first responsibility is to the manor once we are married. Or has that status changed as well? Are you asking to be freed of the contract?”

“I’m not asking, I’m telling.” Astoria whispered, her emerald eyes shifting back to look at him. “I’m sorry Draco, but I tried to talk to you before. You refused to listen and came up with your own idea of how things were. You don’t know anything about me, so this is what I have to do.”

(I’m not sure if this is directed to Draco’s OC, but I feel the need to defend them. This Draco is actually rather proper. Albeit a tad nastier than most, but I enjoy the banter.
